A five-lesson Grade 8 History inquiry built around the 1860 royal tour of British North America. Students follow the route through the Maritimes, Canada East, Canada West, Rupert's Land and Sault Ste. Marie, researching what each region was actually like on the eve of Confederation. Rather than reading about the colonies in the abstract, they investigate one region, map the tour, and share findings with the class, so the group builds a picture of British North America together. What is included: - Five lesson plans with Ontario curriculum alignment, learning goals, success criteria and assessment strategy - Four slide decks: the tour, the research task, study time, and findings - A blank route map with legend for students to complete - A study sheet for consolidation and review The research structure works with whatever regional sources you already use, your textbook, library materials, or curated links.
