The six reasons for Confederation, taught one per lesson, each with a matching student note-taking handout. The sequence works through political deadlock and the Great Coalition, the need for railways, the need for trade after Reciprocity ended, the need for defence in the shadow of the American Civil War, changing British attitudes, and the desire to expand west. Each lesson isolates one reason so students build the argument piece by piece, then assemble the full picture at the end. What is included: - Seven lesson plans with Ontario curriculum alignment, learning goals, success criteria, assessment strategy and accommodations - A slide deck covering all six reasons - Two versions of the Reasons for Confederation student worksheet set, 1 to 6 - Structured note-taking handouts for political deadlock, railways and trade Because each reason is self-contained, you can run all six lessons or pull a single one for a sub day or a review block. Please note: the student worksheets are designed as note-taking frames to accompany a class reading on each reason, so you will need your own textbook or source material alongside them. The slide deck covers all six reasons on its own. Written by a Brock University teacher candidate during a Grade 8 History placement.
